Artist Statement

Art has always been of interest to me. Before 1993, all studies were geared to help me understand and interpret art and its meaning from a historical perspective. Then, in 1993, I met Catherine Zimmerman who awoke the artist in me. By combining watercolor studies with my love of nature, the sea, and sailing, a whole new world evolved for me. I enjoy all aspects of developing a painting or print, from the conceptual stage through completion -- it is a journey.

It is with great pleasure that I open this web site to display my work. Feel free to email me comments about both the web site and the artwork.

About the Artist

Flora was born in Cuba and came to the US in 1961. She was raised in the Boston area and, although not formally trained in art, she took "every course in art history and appreciation available" at her undergraduate institution.

In 1998, the company which employed her as Director of Inventory was sold to an out of state firm. Husband Larry also retired in 1998. This gave them the opportunity to pursue their love of cruising and traveling. Travels have included China/Tibet, India, Nepal, Cambodia, Thailand, Bali, Israel, Egypt, Spain, Iceland, Peru, Ecuador (including the Galapagos), the British Virgin Islands, and more. Locally she and her husband have taken many "road trips," including the American Southwest (one of her favorite areas) and have logged many miles under their keel along the East coast, from the Canadian Maritimes to the Bahamas.
